You know it’s the middle of a cold and snowy winter when a sudden 35degree day feels just so strange…and wonderful. When you can withstand the cold with one single layer less – a hat, perhaps. When the winter cold doesn’t feel so harsh on the lungs, and when you find yourself outside a whole lot longer than you have been in ages. All day, in fact. Ah, yes….that midwinter reprieve – knowing full well that more cold and more snow is on it’s way – is a wonderful thing. There is much shoveling left to be done, ski days to be enjoyed, and cozy fireside hours to be spent. But for today…there is the chance to soak up and rejoice in the sun, watch and listen as the the snow and ice melt from high up in the trees and slides off the barn roof with a giant whoooosh. When you can truly explore, and refine all the wonderful forts and caves and tunnels that have been built all winter long. Everyone joins in the play – the dogs and cats and babies and pigs and ducks and well, with a little convincing – the chickens too. Oh, it’s a wonderful February thing indeed, this kind of a day.
